Although maintaining your natural, healthy teeth is ideal, there are times when a tooth cannot be saved and needs to be extracted. When this happens, dental implants can be used to replace the extracted tooth. Implants can also serve as anchors for dentures or bridges.

The implant generally happens in three phases:

  1. First, the implant is surgically placed into the jaw.
  2. Next, the site is given time to heal. During this time, the bone grows around the implant to anchor it in place. The timeframe for this varies with each patient, but can take up to several months. Your doctor will review the anticipated timeframe with you.
  3. The last step is the placement of the crown, bridge, or denture. The replacement appliance will be customized for you to match the shape, size and color of your natural teeth.
